SML 1000 D Tank level gauging and draft measuring systems
Our profound experience in developing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning electro-pneumatic tank level and draft measuring systems for newbuildings and retrofit vessels has been used when developing the new fully digital Scanjet Macron SML 1000 D tank level gauging and draft measuring system.
The objective was to design an affordable, cost-efficient, reliable easy to use yet very accurate measuring system.
The new tank level gauging system was introduced at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in June 2009, and it created a lot of interest because of its several innovative features.
Since then, many orders have been received from shipyards in Europe, Korea and China.
The new system has been type tested and accepted by DNV without any remarks or modifications.
Scanjet Macron SML 1000 D measures continuously the fluid level in water ballast tanks, fuel tanks, fresh water tanks, lube oil tanks and other tanks, as well as drafts. Also water ingress in dry compartments and empty tanks can be detected and level measured with this system.
The heavy duty pressure are all inside IP 44 protected one or more cabinets located in safe area. There are no sensors or moving parts in the tanks that need checking, calibrating, service or replacement. Up to 30 tanks can be measured with one cabinet.
Main Benefits with Scanjet Macron
-Tank measuring system is optimized using different size of cabinets allowing for significant cost reductions and easier installation
-Highly accurate and reliable online TLG systems
-Easy installation and check of sensor and system performance
-Hardly any need for spares or service
-Easily accessible sensors in cabinets in safe area
-Quick and easy replacement of damaged sensors
-No system downtime, system is working when needed
-No blind tanks slowing down cargo handling operations
-No need to enter tanks for replacing damaged sensors
-No need to empty, clean, gas free tanks for access
-No need to provide tank lighting, ventilation for tanks
-No mounting and calibration of sensors inside tank
-No pulling of sensors cables inside tanks and through bulkheads
Basic Principle
Scanjet Macron Electro-Pneumatic Tank Level Gauging (TLG) systems are based on the electro-pneumatic principle of measuring the fluid counter pressure in tanks.
Clean and dry instrument air is continuously blown down into the tank through a thin measuring pipe and the pressure caused by the fluid in the tank is measured.
The pressure changes as fluid is pumped into or discharged from the tank.
The pressure is converted into fluid level in the measuring unit, or in the ship’s loading computer or the automation system.
Same electro-pneumatic principle is used for measuring the ship’s drafts, and for water ingress detection in dry compartments and empty tanks.
